On the morning of February 8, 2023 (Beijing Time), Academician Manchao He, President of the Chinese Society for Rock Mechanics and Engineering (CSRME), and Dr. Gang Han, President of the American Rock Mechanics Association (ARMA), jointly held the fourth CSRME-ARMA presidential meeting.
During the meeting, Dr. Gang Han, who was wearing the traditional Chinese New Year dress, on behalf of the ARMA and the American Chinese working in rock mechanics, extended New Year greetings to CSRME members, wishing everyone a very auspicious Lunar New Year, happy and good health. Mr. Manchao He, on behalf of the CSRME, wished CSRME-ARMA members good health and happiness in the new year, all wishes coming true, making new contributions to rock mechanics.
President Manchao He first reviewed the outcomes of the previous presidential hotlines, and introduced the latest progress of the following cooperation projects: the co-founded journal "Rock Mechanics Bulletin" (RMB), and the co-initiated "International Correlation Research Program of Cross-Fault Measurement for Earthquake Prediction" (ICRP-CFMFEP), and the co-hosted international academic conference - CHINA ROCK 2022. President Gang Han highly affirmed and appreciated CSRME's outstanding achievements in these three cooperation projects.
And then, President Manchao He emphatically introduced the plan of organizing China Rock 2023 and the implementation plan of the ICRP-CFMFEP in 2023. President Gang Han presented the preparation of the 57th U.S. Rock Mechanics/Geomechanics Symposium 2023, which will be held by ARMA in 2023, and warmly invited CSRME to send a delegation to attend this symposium. The two sides had in-depth exchanges and discussions on specific measures to continue to jointly hold CHINA ROCK, an international academic conference, in 2023, to promote the ICRP-CFMFEP, and focus on the issues of common concern in the field of international rock mechanics and engineering.
Finally, President Manchao He pointed out that international scientific and technological cooperation is a major trend, and that the CSRME and ARMA should continue to deepen cooperation in multiple fields. The presidential hotline sustained a great momentum of development and both sides achieved fruitful results in international cooperation, which is of great significance to the common development of the CSRME and ARMA.
