The Chinese Society for Rock Mechanics and Engineering (CSRME) is a professional learning and exchange organization established and registered in the Ministry of Civil Affairs of People's Repulic of China in 1985 according to the law of People's Repulic of China. The professional fields cover water conservancy and hydropower, geology and mining, railway transportation, disaster mitigation and prevention, and environmental protection and utilization.

At present, CSRME has 5 working committees, 13 professional committees and 11 branches. CSRME has 20,500 individual members of professionals and 40 corporate members of organizations. Furthermore, CSRME has a leading and collaborative relationship with 19 provincial societies of rock mechanics and geotechnical engineering in China.

CSRME is the China National Group of the International Society for Rock Mechanics and Rock Engineering (ISRM). CSRME has more than 2000 individual members who are also the ISRM members. The individual members of CSRME become the members of ISRM at an annual growth rate of about 12%. In addition, CSRME has 25 corporate members who are also the corporate members of ISRM. CSRME has been the national group with the largest members of ISRM since 2007.

CSRME has been one of the prominent influencial national societies in international organizations for professional learning and exchanges. CSRME has won the Best National Group Award of ISRM for three times and is the most awarded national group in ISRM. Professor Xia-ting Feng, Co-President of CSRME, served as the President of ISRM from 2011 to 2015. Professor Manchao He, the Co-President of CSRME, has served as the Vice President at large of ISRM from 2015 to 2019. Professor Qiang Yang, Vice President of CSRME, has been serving as the Vice President at large of ISRM since 2019. Nine individual members of CSRME are serving as the chair persons of eight ISRM Special Committees. Three individual members of CSRME (i.e., Professor Xia-ting Feng, Professor Qihu Qian and Professor Jun Sun) have been awarded the honor of "ISRM Fellow".

CSRME looks forward to enhancing cooperation and academic learning and exchanges with international organizations in the fields of rock mechanics and rock engineering.
