Third Hotline between CSRME and ARMA Presidents

On October 22, 2022, Academician Manchao He, President of the Chinese Society for Rock Mechanics and Engineering (CSRME), and Dr. Gang Han, President of the American Rock Mechanics Association (ARMA), held the third meeting through the CSRME-ARMA hotline.

During the meeting, President Manchao He first reviewed the previous outcomes of the Presidential Hotline, and introduced the latest progress of the co-hosted international academic journal "Rock Mechanics Bulletin" and the co-initiated "International Correlation Research Program of Cross Fault Measurement for Earthquake Prediction". President Gang Han affirmed and appreciated the outstanding achievements obtained from these two projects.
During the session for exchanging views on holding the academic conference, President Manchao He introduced the preparation progress of CHINA ROCK 2022 and expressed his sincere gratitude to ARMA for its substantial support. President Gang Han introduced the annual meeting preparation progress of ARMA2023 Atlanta, and warmly invited the CSRME delegation to attend the meeting. The two parties discussed in depth the detailed measures for holding academic conferences in collaboration in the future during the epidemic.

Finally, President Manchao He shared that the number of projects under construction in China accounts for about 70% of the world's total, and that China has become a major country in rock mechanics in the world. The world-class rock mechanics engineering challenges faced in the future, such as earthquakes, rock bursts, large deformation of soft surrounding rock, water and mud inrush, and faults, are not only important in China, but also very important in the world. To solve such challenges, international collaborations are essential. The cooperation between ARMA and CSRME is a means for seeking technical solutions to solve world-class engineering problems and jointly promote the development of rock mechanics and engineering in the world. President Gang Han expressed that ARMA will be happy to provide technical support, and work with CSRME to overcome these future world-class engineering problems together.

This meeting further extended and deepened the cooperative relationship between Chinese and American Rock Mechanics Societies, and played an important role in promoting the future development of Chinese rock mechanics and engineering technology, as well as making greater contributions to the world's rock mechanics and engineering.
