Exchange Seminar on the application of new technology in underground engineering was held in Beijing

In order to focus on the new technology for underground engineering and accelerate the high-level and high-quality development of hydropower and pumped storage engineering construction, on March 27, the CSRME and the Chinese Society for Hydropower Engineering jointly organized the "Exchange Seminar on the Application of New Technology in Underground Engineering" in Beijing. The CSRME signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Power Construction Corporation of China and the State Key Laboratory for Geomechanics & Deep Underground Engineering.

Academician Manchao He, President of the CSRME, Academician Zongliang Zhang, Chief Scientist of Power Construction Corporation of China, Deputy General Manager and Chief Engineer of Kunming Institute of Power Construction Corporation of China, Director of the Expert Committee of the China Renewable Energy Engineering Institute, Mr. Dunfeng Zong, Chief Engineer of Power Construction Corporation of China, Mr. Xiaojie Yang, the secretary-general of the CSRME, and relevant member units of the CSRME, Professional Committee of Hydraulic Engineering and Hydropower Station Buildings of the Chinese Society for Hydropower Engineering, and the Professional Committee of Hydraulic Engineering and Hydropower Station Buildings of the Chinese Society of Hydropower Engineering, and related member companies of Power Construction Corporation of China, a total of more than 600 leaders, experts and representatives from more than 30 units participated in the Seminar online and offline.

Academician Manchao He pointed out that economic competition is ultimately a competition of technological innovation capabilities in the context of the coexistence of Industrial Economy and Knowledge Economy. With the promotion of the "dual carbon" goals and the new situation of building a new power system, the pumped storage power stations with the most mature, powerful and economical stored energy form will usher in leapfrog development. The accumulation, development and innovation of new technologies for underground engineering are the foundation and strong support to ensure the high-quality development of energy construction. The CSRME, the Power Construction Corporation of China, and the State Key Laboratory for Geomechanics & Deep Underground Engineering focus on serving national major projects and "One Belt, One Road" key projects, and establish a strategic partnership in academic exchanges, science popularization, education and training, awards and evaluation, international cooperation and other aspects, and jointly sign a strategic cooperation agreement. 

Academician Zongliang Zhang presided over the session of the invited report. Academician Manchao He made a special report entitled "Material Innovation to Engineering Revolution". In the pumped storage underground special report session, Jianping Li, the deputy general manager of the pumped storage project management department and the Power China Zhongnan Engineering Corporation Limited, made a report entitled "Research on Support Design of Underground Powerhouse of Lingbao Pumped Storage Power Station"; Zhiji Li, Chief Engineer of Hubei Tongshan pumped storage project design, made a report entitled "Practice and Challenges of Soft Rock Support Technology in Underground Space of Pumped Storage Power Station"; Bingbao Wang, Deputy Chief Engineer of Luoning Pumped Storage Project Design, made a report entitled "Key Technology and Application Practice of TBM Diversion Inclined Shaft of Pumped Storage Power Station". After the report, there was a short and full technical exchange. Academician Manchao He shared more than 30 years on-site experience, emphasizing the importance and necessity of timely compensation for prestress. Chief Engineer Dunfeng Zong said that they will continue to implement the cooperation items in the tripartite agreement in the future, make good plans and produce good results.
